The Danbury Vikings become the Danbury Hatters! posted 06/20/2012 Hat City Youth Sports is proud to announce a momentous change to the Football & Cheerleading Program. The Danbury Vikings have been an entity in Danbury for over 40 years and have serviced many families in the Danbury community. Starting with the 2012 season the Danbury Vikings Football and Cheer program has changed to the Danbury Hatters. Uniforms for ALL Football teams and Cheer squads are now Blue and Orange. President Estela Camacho of Hat City Youth Sports expressed, "the time is right to make the change. While people don't normally embrace change, our Viking families have whole heartedly moved to AYF, American Youth Football, from Pop Warner. Now we are blue and orange; an example that we want to establish the connection between our youth football and cheer programs and the Danbury High School Program. It is time to make the right choice for the children and for our community."
Cheer Director Laura DeMotte ”This was not an easy decision for the Board to make, but after we weighed the pros and cons it was ultimately unanimous. Changing to the Hatters is an exciting step for HCYS as it further aligns our programs with the high school in a positive way’.
Coach Dan Donovan, Principal of the Freshman Academy and DHS Football Coach said, "The Vikings changing their names and colors to that of Danbury High School is only one of many positive steps that has been implemented by the youth organization to bring football back to prominence in Danbury. The switch to American Youth Football (AYF) is another example of how HCYS is trying to establish continuity in our programs. This transition to orange and blue will foster a greater connection between the youth programs and DHS football. I look forward to having those players build on their skills and help transition them to Danbury High School football.”
